Lucius Harold Criswell

Lucius Harold Criswell slipped from this life to his eternal home September 4, 2012 at the Conway Regional Hospital in Conway with his wife and son by his side and a CCU nurse saying a beautiful prayer for this transition. He was born August 6, 1930 in the Ethel community to Louie McSwain and Mack Criswell. He accepted the Lord as his savior as a teenager and gave his life to the ministry at the age of 34. He served as pastor of several churches in Arkansas County during his 48 years in the ministry. His more recent pastorates were Humphrey Baptist Church and Hagler Baptist Church where he was still preaching. He preached his last sermon there Sunday, August 18 two days brfore he entered the hospital. He was a man who enjoyed life. He loved his Lord, his church, his family, and he loved people. He was truly like Will Rogers who said, "I never met a man I didn't like,"he also never met a stranger. He is survived by Wanda, wife of 59 years; his son, Harold and wife, Janet; four grandchildren, Candice of Jonesboro, Courtney of Grand Cayman, Callie of Little Rock, and Annie of Conway. He is also survived by Robert Criswell (Sherry) and Tim Criswell (Charlotte) of DeWitt, Max Criswell (Sandy) of Cabot, and Wanda Rule (Billy) of Springdale. He was known by many people and by many names. He was Lucius to his parents, Dad to his son, Gramps to his grandchildren, Uncle Luke to many, Bro. Luke to some and just Luke to many. One of his favorite things to say was"this world is not my home, I'm just passing through." He was like Paul, "for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." One of the things said of him during these last few days was "he was a happy man." Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Essex Funeral Home Chapel, DeWitt, Ark. Memorials may be made to Hagler Baptist Church, or Conway Regional Health Foundation, CCU/Oncology, 2302 College Ave., Conway, Ark. 72034.
