Rebecca Jane Garner

Rebecca Jane Cotton Garner, 95, of Arkadelphia passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012, in Dardanelle. The youngest daughter of the late Thomas James and Myrtle Love Cotton was born October 17, 1916, at Dardanelle, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Erwin W. Garner, Vice-President of Henderson University, and siblings Thomas Cotton, Anna Gayle Miller, Margaret Miller, Frances Smith and Elizabeth Amis. She was a graduate of Arkansas Tech University, University of Central Arkansas, and University of Arkansas. She taught home economics at Hot Springs High School, then became professor of home economics at Henderson University and Ouachita Baptist University. The final phase of her career was supervisor of home economic teachers for the State Department of Education. She was a member of the St. Andrew United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia, Clark County Retired Teachers Association and Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Arkadelphia.
