Charles W. Bettis, 90, of Conway, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012. He was born June 22, 1922 in Donaldson, Ark., to the late Charles Brown Bettis and Florence Stella (Hudson) Bettis. Charles was also preceded in death by his wife Ethel Mae Bettis and a daughter, Marilyn Bettis. He was a longtime member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Conway. Charles honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II from August 20, 1942 to March 17, 1946. He was employed as a Manufacturer's Representative with various hardware and furniture companies until his retirement. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Charlie (as his friends called him) was a true southern gentleman, and never met a stranger. He was very devoted to his family and church. Charles is survived by his son, Gary Bettis and wife Marianne of Anthem, Ariz. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 13, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Conway, with Pastor Kyle Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway (501-327-7727). Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
