Homer E. "H.E." Summers Jr. passed away in peace in Shreveport, Louisiana after a lengthy illness on September 15, 2012. H.E. is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melva Smith Summers. He is survived by his daughter, Tanya S. Opperman, her husband, Joseph Mark Opperman, and their children, Holly Amanda Ford, married to William Ryan Ford, and Alexander William Wiese; by his son, Grant E. Summers, his wife, Sarah A. Kirkpatrick, and their daughter, Helen Eloise Summers. H.E. is also survived by his sister, Cecilia Moore, and her children, Elizabeth Whelan, Catherine McDaniel and Jon Moore. At the time of his passing, H.E. was expecting the birth of his great-grandson, Elias Dean Ford. H.E. was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on August 6, 1928, to Homer Ernest Summers, Sr. and Bess Hudson. He lived in West Texas and the Little Rock area before settling in Shreveport in 1977. Mr. Summers worked in the oilfield most of his life, primarily as a manufacturer's representative for sub-surface oil well equipment, but participated in a variety of business pursuits. He was an enthusiastic walker and a member of Shriner's International. H.E. will be remembered by many for his sense of humor and his friendly nature. He loved his family, loved life and lived well. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 1 p.m., at Osborn Funeral Home, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to be followed by a funeral and family remembrance in the chapel at the same location at 2:30 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Bearden, Gus Cameron, Robert Davis, Joe Kendrick, Robert McWherter, Dale Smith and Sherman Wynn. The family requests that memorials be made to the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana in Monroe, Louisiana.
