Joan Barnes Krueger

Joan Barnes Krueger, age 86, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at Saline Memorial Hospice, Bryant, Ark., of kidney failure. She was born August 30, 1926, in Camden, Ark., the daughter of Junie Frost Barnes and Myrtle Josephine (Lee) Barnes. On March 2, 1951, at Ft. Chaffee Chapel, Sebastian County, Arkansas, she married James Edward Krueger, an Infantry Officer and Army Aviator from 1950-1970. While stationed at various places in the United States and Europe, Jim and Joan had two sons, James in 1953 and William in 1955. Her parents, husband, two sisters, five brothers, and an infant daughter predeceased her. Mrs. Krueger studied Home Economics and earned her degree from Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia after graduating from Camden High School. She earned her master's degree in education at Troy State University in the mid-1970s. Joan taught second grade in Daleville, Alabama, for over 30 years. Before that, she taught elementary school and high school home economics at Harmony Grove, Ark., near Camden.Mrs. Krueger was a member of the Alabama Education Association. A life-long Methodist, Mrs. Krueger was a charter member (1970) of Bridelwood Chapel in Ozark, Alabama. Survivors include son, Jim and wife Marlo of Benton, son, Bill of Georgetown, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jami (Nick) Horne, Lynsey, Will, and Max Krueger; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Phillip, Jesse, and Anna Beth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Ashby Funeral Home, Benton, from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012. A graveside service will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Malvern, at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 20, 2012.
