Leon Pierce

Leon Pierce, 94, of Mt. Ida, Arkansas, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years. Marie (Hopper) Pierce in 1999 and his parents, Ed and Betty Abney Pierce. Leon is survived by his daughter, Sharron Reynolds and husband, Dick of Crossett, Arkansas, son, Richard Pierce and wife, Angie, of Atkins, Arkansas; grandchildren, Ashley McDaniel (Scott) of Montgomery, Alabama, Stephen Pierce (Lezlee) and Greg Pierce (Kaitlin) both of Russellville, Arkansas, Dale Brown of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Kit Brown (Melanie) of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, Billie Ann Flint, Mary McMillan, Betty Sparks, Martha Tubbs and Linda Wheeler; brother-in-law, Wayne Hopper and wife, Pat, five great-grandchildren, Drew and Caroline McDaniel, Jackson Pierce, and Murdoch and Eleanor Brown; faithful friend, Wilma Ferguson, and a number of other family members. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 2O, at First Baptist Church, 204 Luzerne Street, Mt. Ida, Arkansas, Pastor John Guerra will be officiating. Burial will follow at Pencil Bluff Cemetery in Pencil Buff, Arkansas. Visitation was held Wednesday, September 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thornton Funeral Home, Mt. Ida, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Mt. Ida Building Fund or the Leon and Marie Hopper Pierce scholarship fund for Oden High School at First National Bank of Mt. Ida.
