Omer Ray Crone, 79, of Sardis, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in a VA Foster Home in Cabot from many ailments to his body. He was born August 21, 1933 to the late George C. Crone and Sarah Alma Ball Crone in England, Arkansas. Ray was a graduate of Sheridan High School and Henderson State Teacher College in Arkadelphia. He was of the Baptist Faith and a Korean War Veteran. Ray used his expertise in the field of CPA as co-owner of the National Life Insurance Company of St. Lois, Missouri, an insurance firm in Dallas, Texas and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Ray's special activities in life included gardening, flowers, fruit trees, fishing, umpiring Little League Baseball and in Ray's younger years, he played baseball with the Sardis Cubs Baseball team. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Claudia E. Cole, brothers, John W. Crone and Charles Dean Crone. Ray leaves to cherish is memory, a twin sister, Faye Crone Moren (Waylon) of Sardis, brothers, James M. "Jim" Crone (Kathy) of Sardis and George Robert "Bob" (Betty) of Forth Worth, Texas and several nieces, nephews and friends. Chapel services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 10 a.m., Saturday with Rev. Stephen Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery in Sardis with his nephews as Pallbearers. Visitation will be at Ashbys, Friday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. His family wishes to thank his caregivers, Everett Hodge, Philly Montgomery, Jasmine Hodge and Melinda Gault for loving care of Ray.
