Jack P. Hewitt, 93, of North Little Rock passed away Saturday, September 22nd, 2012. He was born August 29, 1919 in Decatur, Illinois. He had been a resident of North Little Rock since 1948. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jennie B. Gribble Hewitt. He is survived by two daughters, Jackie Diane Dawkins of Marietta, Georgia and Dava Lea Harrington of Monticello, Arkansas; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Hewitt retired from First Pyramid Life Insurance Company, and after retirement he works as a consultant to companies in Arkansas. He also was an active volunteer, having volunteered at Baptist Memorial Hospital, LRAFB Pharmacy, and city of North Little Rock. He served a four year term as an Assistant State Director, the Capital City Task Force and the AARP/Vote for AARP. He served two terms as president of AARP Chapter 693. He served as a member of Life and Health Advisory Task Force for the Arkansas Insurance Department. He served two terms each on the State Social Work Licensing Board and the Board of Licensing Opticians. He was inducted in to the North Little Rock Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1995. He was a member of the Rose City Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years and then a member of the First United Methodist Church-North Little Rock. While there he was a member of the Triune Class. He was an active tennis player and a member of the LRAC. Mr. Hewitt served as an Infantry Officer during WWII, was a member of the First Division, 26th Infantry, and went ashore on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6th, 1944. He remained in the Reserve after the war and retired as a Major in the Arkansas Air National Guard. A celebration of Mr. Hewitt's life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday September 26th, 2012 at Edgewood Memorial Park.
