Nona Condray

Nona Condray, died September 24, 2012. She was born in DeWitt, the daughter of Willie Belle Martin and C.E. Condray. She graduated from DeWitt High School, received a B.A. from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) and MA from the University of Michigan. She worked for 35 years in Washington, D.C. as a Crypt Analyisst and Information Analyist for the National Security Agency and its predessors. Upon her retirement she returned to DeWitt to live. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She always took a strong interest in the news and was interested in politics from the time she was a small child. She was a staunch conservative. She took her duties as head of the family very seriously and never hesitated to reprimand the younger members of the family if they got out of line. She was always interested in animal welfare, especially dogs. She is survived by her nephew, Albert Martin (Pat) Condray, two grandnephews: John Charles Condray and Col. Mike Condray of Virginia; a grandniece, Katherine Condray Abbott of Cheverly, Maryland and her dear Cairn Terrier, Duncan. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Albert Martin Condray and Charles Edgar Condray Jr. and two sisters, Mary Ida Condray Clewis and Martha Jean Condray and a nephew Charles E. Condray, III. The family would like to thank Dr. Stan Burleson, Dr. Brad Baltz and the wonderful nurses and technicians of Little Rock, Stuttgart and DeWitt. Also want to thank her dear friend Patsy Jordan who has been an inspiration and other wonderful friends, Betty Dike, Donna Vittitow, Darleen Frizzell and Kay Whitcomb. Memorials may be given to: Humane Society of Pulaski County, Arkansas Animal Rescue, 32 Bennett, Almyra, Ark. and other charities. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 29th at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial at DeWitt Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
