Sidney Duane McCampbell

Sidney Duane McCampbell, PhD. After a life of service as a minister in churches of Christ and a professor of Bible and English at Harding University, Dr. Duane McCampbell departed to be with the Lord. Born May 31, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to William Ernest McCampbell and Cora Ella Sorrells McCampbell, Professor McCampbell died at White County Memorial Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas, on September 24, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Naomi Lee Barber McCampbell of Searcy, Ark.; a daughter, Betty McCampbell of Cabot, Ark.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Gail Ann and Ron Snyder of Georgetown, Ark. He is survived by four grandchildren: Jason Grimes, Stephanie Moya, Melissa Lyons, and Chris Snyder, and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Darlene Boyd of Altus, Oklahoma. Dr. McCampbell began preaching in 1950 and preached for churches of Christ in Lancaster, California; Torrence, California; Kensett, Arkansas; Mount Zion at Newark, Arkansas; and Friendship (Harmony), Arkansas. He served as a professor of Bible and English at Harding University from 1969 until 2001. He also wrote as a columnist for several newspapers including The Daily Citizen in Searcy, Arkansas. Dr. Campbell was greatly loved and respected by his family, his friends, churches he served, and his students. Six of his former students and special friends will serve as pallbearers or give tribute to him: Luke Smith, Martin Doyle, Randy Smith, Jamie Rucker, William Ralston, Nolan Watson, Jacob Hatfield, and Jacob Robertson. A Colleague and friends, Dr. Bill Lambert, will coordinate his service, and several of his friends and colleagues will make brief remarks to show honor and respect. Visitation will be Thursday at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home from 6 p.m.. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home chapel Friday at 1 p.m. and burial and a brief service will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, Newark, Ark. at 4:30 p.m., Friday.
