"Ed" Edward Wainwright Marsh

"Ed", Edward Wainwright Marsh of El Dorado passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, after a lengthy battle with metastatic bone cancer. He was born May 6, 1940 in El Dorado, Arkansas, the second son of Neill C. Marsh, Jr., and Lillian Bradley Marsh. He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of El Dorado serving as Deacon, Elder, Church Treasurer and served as a past Chairman and longtime member of the Property Committee. Ed was a member of the 1958 graduating class of El Dorado High School, graduate of Southern State College in Magnolia (Southern Arkansas University) with a Bachelor's degree in accounting. After 1964 graduation from college, he went to work for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation in Shreveport, Louisiana and Houston, Texas as an auditor. He joined Murphy Oil Corporation in 1967 as a Junior Accountant, and was promoted to Accountant in 1971 while retiring as Senior Income Tax Accountant in the Income Tax Department in March of 1996. In April of 1996, Ed went to work for Mr. Charles H. Murphy Jr. as manager of the Murphy Family Foundation and continued with the Foundation until he fully retired in April of 2005. Ed would tell you without hesitation that his daughter and son and their families were without a doubt his greatest assets. He was most proud of his six grandsons and the joy and laughter they brought to his life. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neill C. Marsh III. Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Kilgore Marsh, a daughter, Margaret Alicia Marsh Whitaker and her husband, Sam Whitaker; and their two sons, John Arthur Whitaker and Harrison Marsh Whitaker of Monticello Arkansas; his son, David Edward Marsh and his wife Laura Haas Marsh; and four sons Jordan David Marsh, Alex Edward Marsh, and twins, Wesley Allen Marsh and David Andrew Marsh of Fayetteville Arkansas. He is also survived by a nephew Lt. Col. Michael Bradley Marsh and his wife Lisa Marsh and their two sons Braden and Blake, and a niece, Elizabeth Marsh Neff and her husband Bryan Neff of Dallas, Texas. Ed was an avid sportsman who loved and respected nature. He carried a State of Arkansas, lifetime hunting and fishing licensed and enjoyed hunting and fishing for many different game species within the state. He was extremely passionate about Duck hunting and Bass fishing. He greatly enjoyed sharing times with friends and relatives while hunting and fishing. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending summers on Lake DeGray with his family and shooting sports with his grandsons. Ed was a member of Camp Nine Hunting Club of Arkansas City and a member of Copperhead Hunting Club of Selma, Arkansas. Pallbearers include: Jim Kilgore, Lt. Col. Michael Marsh, Bobby Joe Edmonds, Ron Smith, Billy Ray Cook, Adrin Hargett, Bobby McKinney and David Elmore. Honorary Pallbearers are Don Wales, Sam Allen, Gerald Jones, Buddy Ball, Mickey McKinnon, Kenny Mattocks, Kevin Watts, Emon Mahony, Charlie Christian, Felton Clark, Harry Bain, Ralph Langston and Ian Vickery. A private family burial will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Woodlawn Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of El Dorado with Rev. Dr. Dan Loomis presiding. A reception celebrating Ed's life, love and friendship will be held immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
