Leon Thornton, age 86, of Warren, Ark.. died Thursday September 27, in West Monroe, La. Born May 8, 1926 in Sumpter, Ark.. a son of the late Charlie Green Thornton and Wadie Smith Thornton he was a retired logging coordinator for Potlatch Corp. for 32 years, founding member of Prospect Hunting Club in 1965, member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a World War II Marine Corps. veteran and the widower of Willie Mae Sharp Thornton who died June 1, 2002. They were united in marriage April 9, 1949. Also, preceding him in death were brothers, W.J. Thornton, Leroy Thornton; sisters Rachel Taylor and Louise Camp. Survivors are one son, Gary Thornton and spouse Patsy; one daughter, Judy Thornton Wynne and spouse French Jr. all of Warren, Ark.; three brothers, Charles Thornton, Warren, Ark., Kenneth Thornton, Sumpter, Ark. and Billy Joe Thornton and spouse Wilma, Warren, Ark.; one sister, Charlene Ferguson, Star City, Ark.; three grandchildren, French Wynne III., Anne Wynne O'Neill and spouse Ricky, Katie Thornton Williams and spouse Josh, and four great-grandchildren, Richard O'Neill, Victoria O'Neill, Huck Williams and Thomas O'Neill. Funeral services 2 p.m., Sunday, September 30, at Frazer's Chapel. Burial in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer's Funeral Home. Visitation 6-8 p.m., Saturday September 29, at Frazer's.
