Reverend Raymond Arthur Dorman, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Baptist Health Medical Center. He was a retired United Methodist Minister. Reverend Dorman was the son of Bert Vernon and Fannie Mae Combs Dorman. He was born June 25, 1911 in Roby, Texas and the family moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas when he was a child. On October 29, 1933, he married Margaret Dorothy Petler, with whom he had one son, Reverend Wendell Ray Dorman, Sr. After receiving his education at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, Hendrix College and Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, he was admitted into the United Methodist Church's North Arkansas Annual Conference on November 2, 1933. Raymond was ordained a deacon on November 3rd, 1935 and an Elder on November 6th, 1937. He served a number of congregations throughout the state during his 54 year ministry. Reverend Dorman held the position of Pastor Emeritus at First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock and at Levy United Methodist Church where, on June 25, 2011, he delivered one of his final sermons on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Reverend Dorman was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Masonic Lodge #749 in North Little Rock, where he received the Pillars of Solomon Award. Raymond also attended the Big Rock and Crescent Masonic Lodges. He was a member of the Disciple Sunday School class at Levy United Methodist Church and the Ambassadors Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock. Reverend Dorman was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Margaret Dorothy Petler Dorman, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Bush Dorman. He is survived by a son, Reverend Wendell Ray Dorman, Sr of North Little Rock; a grandson, Wendell Dorman, Jr and wife, Marolyn of North Little Rock; a granddaughter, Margaret Dorman of Houston, Texas; special friend, Louise Furnell of North Little Rock and numerous friends and loved ones. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home located at 7724 Landers Road in North Little Rock. A Service of Celebration is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Levy United Methodist Church located at 701 West 47th Street in North Little Rock. Interment will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hendrix College, 1600 Washington Avenue, Conway, Arkansas 72032 for the Dorman Endowed Scholarship or Levy United Methodist Church or First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock.
