Remmel Charles Wilson Sr., age 89, of Little Rock, died April 17, 2013. Known to colleagues as RC and family as Dad or Granddaddy, Mr. Wilson retired in 1988 from Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology as a Senior Systems Analyst. He was father of three children, grandfather of seven grandchildren, and had five great-grandchildren. Remmel was born in De Valls Bluff, Ark. in 1923 to parents Pat and Ethel Wilson. He graduated from Belleville High School in 1941 and studied chemical engineering at Arkansas Tech, lettering twice in boxing, before enlisting in the United States Navy where he was an Aviation Mechanic, Flight Line Mechanical Instructor, and a Golden Glove boxer until his honorable discharge in 1947. He had a lengthy stint in the meat packing industry for John Morel and Swift and Company, and worked for Halliburton as well. He was also active in The Civil Air Patrol. He was beloved by all his co-workers at Arkansas Pollution Control, as well as being extremely instrumental in the technological advancement for the state in this department. He scored several firsts during these years, including winning the first court case against an oil field operator, for which he was commended, and winning land mark cases in air and water pollution. Remmel was a great lover of New Orleans jazz, photography, epic story-telling, genealogies, and computer technology. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his younger brother, Michael, and daughter, Janet Wilson. Remmel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clota Watkins Wilson; brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Carolyn Wilson; son and daughter-in-law, Remmel Jr. and Beverly Wilson; daughter-in-law, Sandra Wilson; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and John Hunt; nephews, Patrick and Michael Wilson; grandchildren, Berkeley Montes, Monica Montes Luksa, Jonathan Hunt, Robin Wilson, Elizabeth Hunt Spencer, Jason Remmel Wilson, and Benjamin Hunt; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Jocelynn, Jerad, Jessa, and Lerin. Also nieces and nephews, Donna Bartholomew, Patty Wallace, Cheri Johnson, Kay Turner, Rene Davidson, David, Greg, Billy and Richie Johnson. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock.
