James Wilburn Lewis passed from this life in the early morning hours of April 19, 2013, at the age of 72, under hospice care in the city of Jonesboro, Ark. He fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith! He came into this world on March 22, 1941 near Newport (Jackson County), Ark. His parents, James Kirby and Augusta Aaron (Greenwall) Lewis; brothers, Winston, Elbert and Franklin Lewis; grandson, Kevin Wolverton and his beloved bride, Barbara Ann (Hawkins) Lewis all preceded him to their heavenly Father. James Wilburn Lewis left a wonderful family behind to carry forth his name. Surviving are a son, Russ Kevin (Mary) Lewis of California, Mo., and four daughters, Dana Collete (Scott) Wolverton and Misty Guyla (David) Ogden of Paragould, Ark., Laura Ann (Phil) Cagle of Collierville, Tenn. and Ashlie Renae Reves of Harrison, Ark. He was Grandpa to 21 and Great-grandpa to nine. Before retiring, he spent over forty (40) years of his life dealing with the public through his career in sales, as well as serving on the Sulphur Rock Arkansas school board for twenty-five (25) plus years. Never one to fully retire, he spent his last active years working for and serving Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. Most of the last forty (40) years of his life, he has been a proud resident of rural Independence County, Ark. mainly in the Sulphur Rock/Charlotte area. His family was his life and the church his rock. He was a long time member of the Harrison Street Church of Christ in Batesville, Ark. A public visitation will take place on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Batesville, Ark. The funeral will be conducted by Thomas German on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Harrison Street Church of Christ in Batesville, Ark., with internment/graveside services to immediately follow at the Maple Springs cemetery. Pallbearers will be the six oldest grandsons, Zachary Wolverton, Aaron Lewis, Justin Johnson, Nicholas Wolverton, Alexx Lewis, and Braden Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Eli Reves, Jack Cagle, Cody Ogden, Chris Ogden, Stefen Hopkins, Travers Hopkins, Will Cagle, Dale Ivie, Errol Lewis, Rick Lewis, Ronnie Lewis, Bobby Simmons, Donald Simmons, and "The Burger King Gang." Although the family appreciates flowers and plants, as an alternative everyone is encouraged to make a contribution to the Children's Home in Paragould, Ark., or to any other charitable cause of choice which promotes healing, eases suffering or enhances the quality of life of others.
