Millard S. Goff, age 82, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 16, 1931 in Smithville, Ark. to George and Nissa Goff. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School (Sharp County) and received his B.S. degree in agricultural education from Arkansas State University after attending Southern State College, now Southern Arkansas University, where he played football and basketball. He served as general manager and chief executive officer of Ozarks Electric Cooperative for 26 years, following five years as manager of member services for North Arkansas Electric Cooperative of Salem (Fulton County). During his 30-year career with electric cooperatives, he held numerous state and national committee and organizational positions, including director of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. and Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp. He was AECI's chairman in 1970, and AECC's president in 1975. Following his retirement, he served as chairman of the Washington County Rural Development Authority and helped to establish the South Washington County Water Loop. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. He was a director of McIlroy Bank and Trust and Arvest Bank in Fayetteville for over three decades and a member of the Fayetteville Rotary Club. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville where he taught an adult Sunday School class and served on committees. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers, an infant grandson, Sean Smith, and a niece. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy; two daughters, Doris Smith of Fayetteville and Judy Higgins and husband Ray of Little Rock; a son, Don Goff and wife Sherri of Fayetteville; a sister, Hazel Russell of Cave City, Ark.; seven grandchildren: Kyle Smith, Gina Smith, Adam Higgins, Ryan Higgins, Sydney Goff, Matthew Goff and Samuel Goff. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Margaret Goff of Concord, N.C., and Ruby Nell Goff of Jonesboro, Ark.; one nephew, Lloyd Goff Jr., and one niece, Rhonda Byrd. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 29 at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at First Baptist Church in Fayetteville with Dr. Douglas Falknor and Dr. Andrew Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Comfort Cemetery in Fayetteville under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, Ark.
