Thomas Knighten Starnes, Sr. (T K)

Thomas Knighten Starnes, Sr. (T K), age 94, died Monday at home after a short illness. He was born in North Little Rock to Dr. J. T. Starnes and Jewel Knighten Starnes and lived his entire adult life in Little Rock with his wife, Katherine, to whom he was married for 60 years. T K graduated from the U of A in 1941 where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he proudly served his county as a fighter pilot with the 69th Fighter Squadron in the Pacific Theater and achieved the rank of Captain. During the 4 war years, he flew every type of aircraft that the Army Air Corp had in the Pacific. After the war, he was a sales representative for Miles Laboratories and finished his career as Sales Manager/Vice President of Archer Drug Company here in LR. Knighten was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, and son, Lance. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Starnes Thomas (Jim), Fairhope, Ala.; son, Knighten Starnes, Jr., NLR; grandson, Gabe Thomas, Seoul, South Korea; Elizabeth Starnes Nichols (Jay), Boerne, Texas, and great-granddaughter, Anna Knighten Nichols. His children and grandchildren will always remember him as a kind and generous man who knew how to have fun. Burial was Friday at Roselawn.
