Martha Jane Meddress

Martha Jane Meddress, 77, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Little Rock, Ark. She was born June 7,1936, in Blanco, Texas, a daughter of the late Felix and Martha Smith. She was also preceded in death by her son, James William Meddress III; brothers, Olan Smith and sisters, Alta Hoffman and Caroline Pehl. Martha was the sixth of nine children. She married Mr. James William Meddress Jr. in San Antonio, Texas on January 1, 1956. They had four children. She attended Vilonia High School and graduated in 1955. She was a long-time resident of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and retired to Jane, Missouri. She was employed by Jim's Automotive, the family business, as an owner and bookkeeper for many years. Martha was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening and canning, quilting, square dancing, playing soft ball, building rock walls and raising her four children. Martha will be remembered by her loving husband and their children: Cynthia Kane and partner, Joan Todd of Little Rock; Pamela Moncrief and husband, Rick of Rogers; Martha Annie Robbins of Little Rock. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jason Merrell, Kaitlin Merrell, Anna Cleek and Julian Robbins; great grandchildren, Noah and Gwyn; brothers and sisters, Marie Giles, Wade Smith, Rennie Engleka, Cathy Hendricks and Bertha Pearce Crawford. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home in Conway. A celebration of Martha's life will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 in the chapel at Griffin Leggett.
