Florence Adeline Holden

Florence Adeline Holden, 96, of Desha, formerly of Little Rock, passed away Aug. 6, 2013. She was born in Independence County (Mitchell's Cove) located three miles West of Locust Grove, Ark. in 1916. Visually impaired from birth, she attended Arkansas School for the Blind at age nine in 1925, graduating in 1936. She also served as the secretary of the Alumni for 25 years. Adeline married Chester Hamilton Holden in Pine Bluff on Aug. 9, 1950. They were married for 42 years until his death on July 26, 1993. She was active in all organizations of and for the blind. She belonged to the American Council of Blind, State Affiliate and served six years as president. Adeline was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church beginning in 1968 until her death. She was preceded in death by mother, Kate Rutledge Foushee; her father, Fount Louis Foshee; her brothers, Fount Louis Jr., Easrom Dewey, Lee Frank, Herman Russell, Barr, and Charles; and her sisters, Elizabeth, Virgie B. Keller and Hazel P. Niehaus. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 with burial to follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Missionary Baptist Seminary at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
