William Otto Porter

William Otto Porter, aged 96 passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 9, 2013. He was born in Rose Hill, Mississippi on April 24, 1917 to Ernest and Eula Porter. He had a brother Edwin(deceased), and two sisters Linnie Land (deceased) and Edith Rogers (deceased). Bill attended school in Rose Hill and Waynesboro Mississippi, then left the family farm in Waynesboro to join the Army at the beginning of WWII. He served in England with the 8th Army Air Core, and continued his service until retiring from the US Air Force in 1970. He was married to Elizabeth M. Porter and has one son John Daniel Porter. During his Service he was stationed in various locations around the world including his final posting at Brent waters, AFB, England. While overseas, Bill and Elizabeth toured Europe and had many interesting experiences. He retired from the Air Force and settled near Elizabeth's family in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and then joined the Arkansas Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1981. Following retirement he was active with Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. He and Elizabeth moved to Birmingham, Alabama to be near their Son and Family in 2009. Elizabeth passed away February 12, 2013 and Bill is now reunited with his true love. He is survived by his son, John and his wife, Claudia and grandchildren, John Daniel,Jr., Nellie Elizabeth and Stephen Ronald Porter. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the Chapel at Fair Haven Retirement Center, 1424 Montclair Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35210. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas next to Elizabeth. Local Arrangements made by Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F.
