Edward Johnson Jr.

Funeral services for Edward Johnson Jr.,87, passed away December 11, 2013, in Little Rock. He was born on November 16, 1926, in Benton to Edward and Arizona Johnson. Edward grew up in Benton. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 24 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Following his retirement in 1969, he worked for the Veterans Administration in Little Rock, retiring in 1990. He then began his third career working for Wilson & Associates until 2010. Edward married the love of his life, Eugenia Shelton Johnson in 1951. They were married for 59 years. A long-time member of Geyer Springs Baptist Church, he was currently a member of Immuanel Baptist Church of Little Rock, serving as a deacon for both churches for many years. He also taught Sunday School for many years. A devout Christian, Edward will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, his love for his family and his church and the love he had for his dogs. Edward was preceded in death by: his parents, his wife, Eugenia Johnson and two brothers and three sisters. Edward is survived by: his sons, Kyle D Johnson ( Jo Ann) of Athens, Texas and Rel G. Johnson of Maumelle, and grandchildren PFC Chris Johnson and Katrina Johnson of Athens, Texas, two brothers, Charles Johnson of Prattsville and Ronnie Johnson of Little Rock. He will be missed by his canine companion, Phoebe. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the Chapel of Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 I-30, Little Rock, Ark. (501) 455-5800 with the Dr. Gary Hollingsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
