Billy J. Ross, Jr., 53, passed from this life on December 12. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Billy touched in some way throughout his memorable life. Billy left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Known for his handlebar mustache, dry wit, and infectious laughter many people who knew Billy have fond memories of him. Billy worked for KARK news for 27 years from 1984 to 2011. During his time at the station, Billy helped revolutionize the industry, transitioning the station from the analog into the digital age. Billy had worked his way up from Sky 4 helicopter engineer to Assistant Chief Engineer at the time of his departure from the station. Billy finished his career in television at KTHV as their Manager of Technology. Billy spent his Sunday's operating broadcast equipment for Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Billy enjoyed a wide range of hobbies. He was always "piddling", taking things apart and almost always getting them back together. There wasn't anything Billy would not attempt to fix. He was a self-taught string instrument musician, playing everything from guitar to dulcimer to fiddle. His favorite instrument was the banjo, which he would often play on his front porch for the whole neighborhood to hear. Billy's favorite holiday was Halloween, known for always having the scariest decorations in the neighborhood and for many years he lent his talents to IHM Catholic Church's Haunted Hayride. He also greatly enjoyed fishing, golfing, and 4-wheeler riding. His "can-do" attitude and his "simple man" way of life left an impression on everyone he met. Billy was a true friend to many; his kind personality and loyalty will be remembered long after his untimely passing. Billy is survived by his children, Toria and Taylor Ross; sister, Sharon Ross Miller (Don); niece, Jennifer Miller Webb (Shanon); nephew, Jonathan Miller; great-nephews, Isaiah and Titus Webb; uncle, Bob Ross (Lynn); as well as many other extended family and friends. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Nell Ross. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18 from 6-8 p.m. Memorial service will be held Thursday December 19, from 10-11 a.m. Both will be at Griffin Leggett-Forest Hills Funeral Home in Alexander, Ark. Billy will be laid to rest beside his parents at Forest Hills Memorial Park across from the Funeral home.
