Frederick Norlin

FREDERICK CHRISTIAN NORLIN, devoted and beloved husband of Mary Jane Norlin for 67 years, passed away on Dec. 26, 2013. Fred was born in Burlington, Iowa, on March 17, 1920. He grew up in La Harpe, Ill. Fred served our country in World War II for 3 ½ years in the Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Brigade in the field, 6th Marine Division Pacific Theatre. He received his discharge in China and he was able to spend time there living with a family and traveling. One of his fondest memories was walking on the Great Wall of China. When Fred returned to the U.S., he and Mary Jane were married on Nov. 16, 1946. Being an English College Professor at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Ill. was a rewarding career for him. Fred was preceded in death by an infant son, John. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Norlin; daughters, Nancy Setzler and Christina Norlin; grandchildren, Sarah Chunn, Jennifer Norlin, and Amanda Baker; great-grand-children, Preston Baker, Cameron Norlin, Parker Baker, Sterling Chunn, and Broxton Chunn; and a sister, Evelyn Roach, and a niece, Patty Hofer. Fred's family is grateful for the extended family and caregivers at Foxridge Assisted Living in North Little Rock, and Gentiva Hospice who have given Fred phenomenal care and compassion. A celebration of Fred's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
