Hubert Ray Threlkeld Sr.

Hubert Ray Threlkeld Sr., 94, of Little Rock and formerly of Heber Springs, passed away Feb 3, 2013, at his home. He was born April 2, 1918, to Hubert Henry and Agnes Dyer Threlkeld of Los Angeles, Calif. He lost his parents at age 18 mos. and lived with his father's brother William True Threlkeld and his wife Loreena Lumbrick Threlkeld in Memphis, Tenn. He married Helen Elizabeth Davis of Memphis on Sept. 11, 1943, and had four children. He earned a BS in Business Administration from Memphis State University, served in the US Army on active duty for 4 years and as a reservist for 25 years, and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and worked for the US Post Office in Memphis and St. Louis for 30 years. He and his wife retired to Greers Ferry and later he moved to Little Rock. He was a founding member of St. Francis Episcopal in Heber Springs and later attended St. Mark's Episcopal in Little Rock. He is preceded in death by his daughter Judith Taylor Threlkeld and his wife of 54 years, Helen, his brothers, Warren Threlkeld and Fred Mooney and his sister, Mabel Threlkeld Colvin. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret of Newport, a son, H. Ray Threlkeld, Jr. and his wife Lois Isensee Threlkeld of Loudon, Tenn. and another son, Stephen Threlkeld and his wife Elizabeth Choinski of Oxford, Miss.; five grandchildren, two grandsons, Tom and Chris, of Ray and Lois, and their spouses Jessica and Wendy; and one grandson, Craig, and 2 granddaughters, Anne and Catherine, of Stephen and Elizabeth; and one great granddaughter, Sarah, of Chris and Wendy. He enjoyed reading, golf, photography and travel; he travelled to all 7 continents during his lifetime and was well known for his sense of humor. A service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal in Heber Springs.
