Homer Doyle (H.D.) Bailey, Jr. of Batesville, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 30, 2013. H.D. was the devoted husband to the love of his life and his wife of 56 years, Anna Elizabeth (Cissy) Bailey, whom he married in 1956, and the caring father to Elizabeth Ann Brothers and Doyle Bailey. H.D. was born on April 22, 1931 in Star City, Arkansas. H.D. committed his life to Christ as a 16-year-old boy in McGehee, Arkansas. He graduated from high school there and later graduated from Baylor University in 1954. H.D. served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1959, H.D. and his father moved to Batesville, Arkansas, and they started and successfully operated Bailey Ford Sales for many years. If one word could describe H.D., that word would be integrity. H.D. was honest and truthful in all of his business dealings and social interactions. He loved his family, church and the City of Batesville. H.D. served as a deacon and usher at First Baptist Church, Batesville. He was active in community affairs by contributing his time and energy to the Batesville Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club (serving as President of both organizations). H.D. contributed to many Christian charities. H.D. was a friend to so many people and was widely respected in the community. His Christian character, work ethic and service to others served as an example to all who knew him. He never met a stranger. H. D. enjoyed swapping stories and "solving the world's problems" with his buddies at the Round Table. He will be greatly missed. H.D. is survived by his loving wife, Cissy Bailey, his daughter, Ann Bailey Brothers, and her husband, David Brothers, of Sugar Land, Texas, and his son, Doyle Bailey, of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca (Becky) Bailey Morris, and her husband, Robert Morris, of Greenville, Texas, his sister-in-law, Betty Coles of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and her family, and four beautiful granddaughters who H.D. loved very much: Sara Elizabeth Brothers, Rebecca Brothers, Brooke Bailey and Hannah Bailey. H.D. is preceded in death by his parents, Homer Doyle Bailey (Sr.) and Vivian Bailey. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Batesville, 610 E. Main, Batesville, Arkansas 72501, on Saturday, February 9, at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Annex of the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to one of H.D.'s favorite charities: the Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches, P.O. Box 3964, Batesville, Arkansas 72503, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
