Joy Mae Newton

Joy Mae Weatherford Newton, age 85 of Cornerville, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born November 7, 1927, a daughter of the late Walter Owen and Medie Jones Weatherford. She was the owner of Newton Grocery, Newton Farms and Roy Newton Logging. She was an avid quilter, whose quilts were enjoyed by people all over the United States. She was the widow of Roy Newton, whom she married August 25, 1945. She is also preceded in death by three brothers; Homer, Clarence and Elvin Weatherford. She is survived by two daughters; Brenda Branch (Ralph) of Cornerville and Terri Edmundson (Greg) of Bentonville, two sons; Doug Newton (Becky) of Star City and Rickey Newton (Vicki) of Little Rock, 6 grandchildren; John Carr, Dr. Crystal Newton Moore, Cassie Newton Thompson, Zac Morris, Andrew Morris and Aaron Newton, and six great-grandchildren; Charlie Carr, Jake Carr, Jackson Morris, Sydney Morris, Caden Moore and Kallie Ann Thompson, four sisters; Johnnie McKeown and Inez Mullins, both of Star City, Mary Grimes of White Hall and Sue Tucker of Des Arc. Funeral Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Griffin Funeral Chapel with Bro. Wayne Jordan officiating. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
