Gloria June Helton, a life-long resident of Arkansas who lived in Hot Springs for 58 years, passed away on Feb. 6. She was greatly loved by her family and the many friends she made over her 84 years. She was born Gloria June McSpadden in Pfieffer, Ark. on June 20, 1928, the daughter of William Neal McSpadden and Lucille Hollandsworth McSpadden. She spent her early years in nearby Batesville in the area where her family has lived since 1937. Later, Gloria moved with her family to Little Rock, where she graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy. In 1947, she married Calvin Helton, who remained her loving husband until his death in 1980. She worked for Southwestern Bell until having her second child while living in North Little Rock. The family relocated to Hot Springs in 1954. In 1966, she and her husband built a home on Lake Hamilton, and she kept it until her passing. Following Calvin Helton's untimely passing, Gloria returned to the working world at the Arlington and Majestic Hotel Company. There she met Leland Hilborn, whose companionship she enjoyed until his death in 2007. She is survived by sons Glenn Helton and his wife Bonnie of Cupertino, Calif., Donald Helton of Pattaya, Thailand, and daughter Toni and her husband John Aulgur of Hot Springs. Also, her three beloved grandchildren Elisa and Nicholas of Cupertino, Calif., and Sean White of Fayetteville. In addition, her brother Bill McSpadden and wife Dolores of Russellville and many nieces and nephews in Arkansas and other states. A memorial service for Gloria will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Little Rock National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Caring Place, 101 Quapaw, Hot Springs, Ark., 71901.
