Michael Glen Drewett, 60, of Sherrill, born Feb., 14, 1952, to Wanda Lunsford and Glen E. Drewett in Baton Rouge, La., passed away Feb. 8, 2013. Mike was also the step-son of Richard B. Vining. Mike graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1970. He was an avid participant in all sports from Pee Wee through High School. He participated in the Punt pass and Kick Competition at age 12. Mike was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 1970, and also played for the Cincinnati Reds. He attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, and was an assistant baseball coach at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he graduated from college. He Coached and taught at Watson Chapel High School from 1975-1979. In 1979, he opened the Rod and Rack Sporting Goods Store and he also worked for Sportsman's Haven for many years. Mike was Director of Parks and Recreation in Pine Bluff from 1992-2000. His many accomplishments were: building and funding the Waterfront Meeting Facility at Regional Park, the Saracen Trace RV Park, weigh-in Pavilion, handicap fishing pier, Bowhunters Archery Range, Regional Baseball Field, and was instrumental in raising the entrance road into Regional Park. His proudest accomplishment was the complete planning and development of the multimillion dollar Harbor Oaks Golf Club and Restaurant at no cost to the City of Pine Bluff. He worked extensively with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in developing new projects in Regional Park. He was instrumental in bringing over one hundred fishing tournaments to Pine Bluff. Mike also managed Mallard Express Convenience Stores in four counties for many years. At the time of his death, he was Parks and Recreation Director in Stuttgart, where he was instrumental in building an Aquatic Park, and acquired thousands of dollars in grants for the parks. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Pat Monk Drewett; two sons, Michael Lee Drewett (Leslie) of Kingwood, Texas, and Jon Derik Drewett of Marked Tree, Ark.; his two cherished grandchildren, Lainey and Luke; mother, Wanda Vining of Sherrill, Ark.; his father and step-mother, Glen and Jacki Drewett of Humble, Texas; half-brothers Al and Fred Drewett; and half sister Laura Sellars. Mike was preceded in death by his beloved step-father, Richard B. Vining. He loved the outdoors and was an avid outdoors-man. He was the founder and charter member of the Pine Bluff Bow Hunter club. He was just as happy taking pictures of big bucks as the taking of one. He recently mastered the hobby of knife-making and was well known in the area for his unique and one of a kind knives.He also attended Central Presbyterian Church. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Central Presbyterian Church at 6300 Trinity Drive in Pine Bluff. Visitation will be Monday Evening from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson's.
