VERNON ARTHUR HARNESS JR., age 83, passed away peacefully at home Feb. 14, 2013. He was born July 4, 1929 in Cherry Hill, Ark. His parents, Vernon Harness Sr. and Ethel Drye preceded him in death, as well as three grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife and caregiver of 60 years, Freda Deuerling Harness; two daughters: Mary Thomas (John), and Rose Anne Smith (Donnie); five sons: David, Larry, Jerry (Lisa), Tom (Lisa), Tim (Paula); 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Hubert (Sue) from Clinton and Wayne (Sue) from Harrison; three sisters: Margie Forbis and Floye Brewer from Clinton, and Jane Meyers (Ed) from Greenbrier. Mr. Harness was a successful business man owning Harness Auto Parts Stores in Little Rock and Sweet Home. He was an active member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, participating as Eucharistic Minister, usher, baseball coach and Webelo Scout leader. He and his wife proudly served coffee and donuts every Sunday for over 13 years. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, followed by a Rosary at 7 at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 I-30, Little Rock, (501)455-5800. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, 11 a.m. at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 9th and Sherman Streets, Little Rock.
