Vivian Wilson Harris

Vivian Wilson Harris, 91 passed away Wednesday, February 20 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. She was born May 21, 1921 to the late Robert Warden Wilson and Annie Doss Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Loren Harris. Mrs. Harris was a successful business woman, serving fourteen years as a bookkeeper for doctors Robert and Lewis Hyatt. She later owned and operated Harris Florist and then Ben Franklin retail store. In 1981, she was elected Drew County Circuit Clerk and served unopposed until her retirement. As an active member of the community, Vivian belonged to the Drew County Medical Assistants Society and was a charter member of Town and Country Garden Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1953. Vivian enjoyed good health most of her life which allowed her to do things she enjoyed, such as working in her yard, making quilts for her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the happiest when she could help others as she often did. Mrs. Harris is survived by two daughters; Wanda, wife of Mike Cavaness of Monticello and Debrah wife of Clyde Dorrough, of Mtn. View; three grandchildren, Melissa, wife of Sandy Sanders of Monticello, Ann Gould of Ringgold, LA and Robert, husband of Katrina Cavaness of Monticello; five great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kelsey Watts, Dawson and Martin Gould, and Katie Grace Cavaness; two sisters, Bivian Collins and May Pennington of Monticello. She also had many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Oakland Cemetery.
