A memorial service celebrating the life of Adrienne S. Tidwell, 85, of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe with The Very Reverend T.W. Stodghill, III officiating. Interment to follow at the Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium. Mrs. Tidwell passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Adrienne was born in New Orleans on March 24, 1927 and moved with her parents to Monroe at age 3. She was a graduate of Neville High School in 1943 and attended Sophie Newcomb Memorial College. In the 1950's she also worked for her father, Dr. Nathan Gaston, who was the only orthodontist in North Louisiana practicing in this newly developed and state of the art part of the dental field. It was through her father's orthodontics specialty that she met Dr. Therman "Snuffy" Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas whom she married in 1960. Adrienne made the decision to move back to Monroe in January, 1978 to be with friends and family following the death of Snuffy in 1975. In 1994, she married long-time and childhood friend Carl "Cig" Tidwell of Monroe whom she remained married to until her death. Adrienne was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, a former member of Bayou DeSiard Country Club and belonged to numerous organizations such as Monroe's Junior Charity League and Little Rock's Twentieth Century Club serving as president of both organizations.
Adrienne is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Nathan and Adrienne Gaston and Dr. Therman "Snuffy" Smith. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Carl "Sig" Tidwell; son, Nat Smith and his wife Stephanie of Monroe; a daughter, Adrienne Bailey and her husband Mack of Leesville, La.; step-daughter, Barbara Dunn and her husband Jim of Tulsa, Okla.; step-daughter Carolyn Jordan of Nashville, Tenn.; step-son, Mike Smith and wife Patty of Little Rock, Ark.; step-daughter, Jan Tidwell and step-son Dr. Gregg Tidwell and Dusty Gibbs of Monroe. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Kilbourne Hall at Grace Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, an hour before the memorial service. The family wishes to extend their thanks and heart-felt gratitude to Drs. Frank Weinholt and Michael Sampognaro, Jennia Adams with Louisiana Hospice, and the entire staff of care-givers at The Terrace who gave Adrienne excellent care and love.
