Janice Sue Grider was born July 4, 1923, at Denning, Franklin County, Ark., the daughter of Daisy and Charles Huckaby. A graduate of Ozark High School, attended Draughns Business College in Fort Smith, Ark. and Fhur School of Business in Pine Bluff, Ark. She was married to Murrey J. Grider of Warren, Ark., in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1958. Also preceding her in death was special friend John Overman. Having retired from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration-Revenue Department after 30 years of service., she worked as director of the White Hall Museum 1991-2008. She was elected as the first woman alderman to the White Hall, Arkansas City Council in 1983 and served seven consecutive two year terms. Being a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, R.S.V.P., White Hall Chamber of Commerce, she served on the board of the Convalescent Home. She was selected from Arkansas to be in the "Photo of the Century" honoring at least one person from each state born on the Fourth of July between 1900-1999. Survivors include two sons, Murrey L. Grider of Pocahontas, Ark. and Billy John "BJ" Grider(Vicky) of White Hall, Ark.; grandchildren Joe Grider(Summer), Suzanne Frisby (Norman), Jon Allen Yarbough(Candy) and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church White Hall, Arkansas, Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, from 10-11 a.m. Services to be held 11 a.m. by Pastors Paul Williams and Bob Harper, at the First Baptist Church in White Hall, Ark. (where she was an active member for more than 50 years). Burial will be in the White Hall United Methodist Church Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son.
