Rufus Sellers Maxwell

Mr. Rufus Maxwell, born Aug. 1, 1937 in Parkdale, Ark., passed away on June 27, 2013. After graduation from high school in 1955, Mr. Maxwell spent an enlistment in the United States Air Force. Afterwards he completed two Bachelor degrees, one in Math Education and one in Accounting. He later completed a Masters degree in Math. Mr. Maxwell enjoyed a 25-year teaching and basketball coaching career. His final destination was a 17-year stint at Humphrey Schools. He retired in 1993. Throughout his teaching career and retirement, Mr. Maxwell always championed education. Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers. His survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Alice Maxwell of White Hall, Ark.; his son, Ralph Maxwell of Smyrna, Ga.; two brothers, Marion Maxwell (Sadie) of St. Louis, Mo. and W.H. Maxwell (Deidre) of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two sisters, Agnes Maxwell of Pine Bluff, Ark. and Mary Roberts of Chicago, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel by Brother Ralph Maxwell. Burial will be in Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark. by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff. Visitation/Family Hour will be Tuesday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
