Leonard Louis Bauman

Leonard Louis Bauman (Nookie), age 90, passed away June 30, 2013. Mr. Bauman was born April 6, 1923 to Louis and Hazel Bauman in North Little Rock, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents,; his wife, Wanda June Bauman; two sisters, Kathryn Butler and Theresa Berry; his brother, Charles Bauman; grandson Scott Bauman and a granddaughter, Tammy Belcher. Mr. Bauman was a retired police Captain for the North Little Rock Police Department and a life long resident of North Little Rock and the Baring Cross neighborhood. Mr. Bauman was a 1942 graduate of North Little Rock High School and was president of the class of 1942, a three year All State full back for the North Little Rock Wildcat football team and was offered a football scholarship to the University of Georgia. Mr. Bauman was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-1946 aboard the attack transport APA13, U.S.S. Joseph T. Dickman and U.S.S. LST 156 as a GM3/C in the South Pacific. Upon returning from World War II Mr. Bauman played Semi-pro baseball for the New York Giants farm club. Mr. Bauman was a devout Catholic and a life long member of St. Mary's Church at 15th and Parker Street in North Little Rock. Mr. Bauman is survived by his son Lennie Bauman (Dorothy); daughter, Yvonne Harris (Billy Ray); grandson, Mike Bauman, granddaughter, Elizabeth Hardwick Ammons, great-grandsons, Anthony, Brady, Lucas; great-granddaughter, Kellye and great-great-grandson, Boston and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Jean Fletcher, sister-in-law and to the staff and employees of Robinson Nursing and Rehab Center for all their kindness, assistance and consideration to Mr. Bauman. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 72116 (501-791-7400), Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
