Elsie "Jean" Geneva Lee Carothers

ELSIE "JEAN" GENEVA LEE CAROTHERS, 92, peacefully left her home in Maumelle, Ark. and went to be with the Lord and her many friends and family members who have gone before her on July 3, 2013. She was born on June 30, 1921, to Elsie and Clarence Raney in Comanche, Okla. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jackson "Jay" and William "Dub" Raney; her beloved husband of 55 years, George Carothers; and son-in-law, Kay Sissell. Jean loved her country. She joined the Civil Service during World War II, and she met George at an army base where he was stationed in Fort Sill, Okla. They were married Nov. 10, 1944. After the war ended, they lived a short while in Muncie, Ind. before calling South El Monte, Calif. their home from 1950-1998. It was here they raised their family. She is survived by her son, Robby Carothers; her daughter, Sue Sissell; her granddaughter, Kim Shaffer and husband, Greg; her grandson, Bryan Sissell; her granddaughter, Tracey Johnson and husband, Raymond; and three great-granddaughters, Kalynn, Isabelle and Bailee. She and George moved to Maumelle, Ark. in 1998. George died Jan. 26, 1999. Throughout her life, she had various other jobs, but the job she took the most pride in was taking care of her family. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, genealogy and shopping. Jean had an unwavering faith in God and was not afraid to share this faith with others. She was a longtime member of the Hillside Baptist Church in City of Industry, Calif. and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Maumelle. She was also a faithful member of the Maumelle Prayer Warriors, led by her dear friend, Gayle Odem.
