Betty Jean Barfield, 84, of Hot Springs Village passed away July 6, 2013. She was born July 5, 1929 in Jackson, Michigan to the late William and Alma Hathcock. She was the wife of Jim Barfield for more than sixty years before his death in 2009. Betty and Jim returned to their home state in 1995 after a life spent working and living around the world, lovingly devoted to one another. She displayed her artistic talents through painting, design and cooking. Betty was a dedicated supporter of many local charities that served the needs of children, animals and nature. Her compassion, adventurous spirit and delightful sense of humor led all who knew her to love her. The word "amazing" does not do her justice. Betty is survived by her sister, Wanda Jean Hopkins of Maumelle, Arkansas; brother, William Jerry Hathcock of Roland, Arkansas; nieces, Debra Allison Dunham of North Little Rock, Tamera Dee Waschalk of Malvern, Teresa Lynn Jones of Roe, Arkansas, Kimberly Ann Hopkins of North Little Rock, Lane McKinley of Russellville and Amanda Lopez of Bryant; and her faithful dog, Ginger, now in the care of her best friend, Melody Edmonds of Jessieville. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Caruth Village Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to a charity of the giver's choice. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
