Wilchor David Moon, age 80, of Conway, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013. He was born June 2, 1933 in Rose Bud, Arkansas to the late Jack and Della Moon. Known affectionately to friends as "Buck," he spent most of his life in education. After graduating from Rose Bud High School in 1951, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1956. In 1958, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas) and a Master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. His PhD degree from Oklahoma State University would follow in 1967. Dr. Moon was a member of the Mathematical Association of America and was awarded a National Science Foundation Science Faculty Fellowship in 1964. During his teaching career, Dr. Moon was a faculty member at the University of Tennessee, Southern Arkansas University, Arkansas College, and the University of Central Arkansas. While at Arkansas College, he served as Chairman of the Science Division and was also a consultant in the Health Physics Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. At UCA, he was a faculty member in the mathematics department from 1968-1972 before serving as Dean of Undergraduate Studies from 1972-1993. Dr. Moon eventually returned to teaching math in 1993 before retiring from UCA in 1997. He was inducted into the UCA Half Century Club in 2008. Besides his love of teaching, he was an avid quail hunter and enjoyed training his dogs and sharing his love of this hobby with family and friends. Another favorite pastime was watching his three grandsons play sports of all kinds. A member of Conway's First Baptist Church, Dr. Moon served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was also a Rotarian and a Gideon and especially enjoyed handing out Bibles to students at the local colleges. In addition to his parents, Dr. Moon is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Yandell and Myrtle Taylor Moon of Rose Bud, Ark.; maternal grandparents, Wilchor and Martha Kerr of Damascus, Ark.; and a nephew, Michael Ross of North Little Rock, Ark. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 60 years, Virginia Truhe Moon; daughter, Debi McDaniel of Little Rock, Ark.; son, Pat Moon and wife, Shelly , of Conway, Ark.; grandchildren, Ben McDaniel of Little Rock, Ark.; Tyler Moon, Marshall Moon, Wes Mathis and Maegan Mathis, all of Conway, Ark.; sister, Sandi Dreher of North Little Rock, Ark.; great-niece, Mady Ross of Little Rock, Ark.; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Wicker officiating. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will precede the service at Roller-McNutt at 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be Tyler Moon, Marshall Moon, Ben McDaniel, Wes Mathis, Jerry Moon, and Larry James. Honorary pallbearers will be Fellowship Sunday School class of Conway's First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to The Gideons International at P.O.
