Dorothy Marie Lillard Newberry, age 90, of Arkadelphia, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at Kansas City, Mo. She was the widow of William L. "Bill" Newberry, her husband of almost 60 years. Dorothy was born January 22, 1923 in Vanndale, Ark., the daughter of Jennings Clifton Lillard and Mary Lillard., and spent her later childhood near Jackson, Tenn. She was valedictorian of her high school class at Mercer, Tenn. Dorothy moved to Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock Junior College. She worked for the E.E. Raines insurance company. After World War II, she married Bill and they moved to Arkadelphia, which was his hometown, and they raised two children. Dorothy was a loving wife and mother, devoted member of the First Methodist Church, past president of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter BB, and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to play bridge, travel, and have get-togethers with friends. She is survived by two sisters, Lucille Miller of Bald Knob, Ark., and Agnes Sharp of Little Rock; two children: Tom Newberry of Reston, Va. and Janie Jones of Kansas City, and two grandchildren, Marissa Newberry and Travis Jones and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the Galway Home, and to Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City, Mo A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 19 at First United Methodist Church Arkadelphia.
