B. Wallace McDowell

Dr. B. Wallace McDowell, 75, a long-time resident of Hope, Ark., died July 27, 2013. He was born March 15, 1938 in Sewickley, Pa., the only child of Bob and Marilyn (Collins) McDowell. He attended Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth, Texas, attended North Texas State University and graduated from Texas Wesleyan University and Baylor Dental School in Dallas, Texas. He married Alicia Tripp on June 4, 1960; they celebrated their 53rd anniversary this year. He was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Madison (Bob) McDowell. Wallace was an incredible man who stuck by his values and was always there for his family. He moved to Hope, Ark. in 1972 and opened a dental practice where he served the residents of Hope for the next 36 years and raised cattle with his parents for most of his life. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and felt called to share his faith with his family and friends, of which he had many. He was also a member of the Hope Country Club, Lions Club, Century Bible Class and the American Dental Association. He was an avid reader and especially loved books that would help him learn about a new topic. In addition to reading, Wallace enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors with family and friends and was an accomplished artist. Wallace is survived by his wife, Alicia McDowell of Hope, Ark.; his mother, Marilyn McDowell of Springhill, Ark.; three children, his son Martin McDowell and wife, Stephanie, of Bentonville, Ark. and daughters, Teresa Getchell of Tulsa, Okla. and Kahlynn Walton of Bentonville, Ark. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Caitlin Getchell, Spencer Getchell, Burns Getchell, Garrison Getchell, Lydia Joy Getchell and Taggert Getchell, all of Tulsa, Okla. and Brint Walton, William Walton, Brooks McDowell and Macy McDowell, all of Bentonville, Ark. Visitation will be Monday, July 29, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home at 403 S. Main St. in Hope. Services will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church at 2300 S . Main St. in Hope, with Pastor Steve Johnson officiating. Interment to follow at Anderson Cemetery in Springhill Ark. under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
