Janice Eddleman, 71, of Booneville, formerly of Fort Smith, died June 10, 2013 in Fort Smith. She was born Cora Janice Bufford to Wilson Hugh and Nobia Lee Jeffrey Bufford on June 15, 1941 in Desha, Arkansas. She was a graduate of Arkansas Tech University with a BA Degree in History and Political Science. She was a 30 years employee of the Fort Smith Public School System serving as a teacher of Social Studies at Southside High School. She began her teaching career in Fort Smith at Darby Junior High School and moved to Southside when it opened. She taught grades eighth through twelve, and taught genealogy courses on the college level at Carl Albert Junior College in Poteau, Okla. She was a member of the National Educational Association, the Arkansas Education Association, the Fort Smith Classroom Teachers' Association, the Arkansas Council for Social Studies, and Teachers of Arkansas Studies Council. She was also a member of Historical Organizations, Arkansas Historical Society, Arkansas Genealogical Society, Fort Smith Historical Society, South Sebastian County Historical Society, Charter member of the Frontier Researchers, Independence County Historical Society, Batesville Genealogical Society and professional Genealogists of Arkansas. Her community service included Mount Magazine Girl Scout Council, volunteer at the Fort Smith National Historic Site, Chairman of the Historic Records Committee, Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Smith Chapter, and member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband John L. Eddleman of Booneville and one sister, Anita Farra of Texarkana, Ark.; niece, Andrea Mason and great-nephew, Samuel Mason. Funeral service will be Friday, June 14, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Tim Garvey, Jimmy Garvey, Jason Garvey, Wayne Haver, John Samuels, Larry Loux, David Overton, and Dave Ollard.
