Thurman Dallas (Jack) Johnson

Thurman Dallas (Jack) Johnson, 90, of Griffithville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Little Rock. He was born Sunday, January 21, 1923 in Bald Knob, Arkansas to the late William M and Nettie Holder Johnson. Mr. Johnson spent his younger years on the family farm, at the age of 17 he went into the Civilian Conservation Corp. At the age of 20 he volunteered for the United States Navy attending boot camp in Farragut, Idaho and gunnery school in San Diego, California. After training he served the rest of WWII in the Pacific Theater. After the war Jack came back to Arkansas to work on the family farm then moving on to Little Rock where he retired as a machinist. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Griffithville and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he attained his 32nd degree. Jack enjoyed collecting arrowheads and fishing with Margaret and his grandsons. He was skilled in wood working and made and shared many beautiful pieces. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret G. Rice Johnson; twin great-granddaughters, Margaret and Addison Pence; a brother Herbert M. (Bobo) Johnson; and a sister, Bonnie Johnson Haney. Jack leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Donna Hamilton of Searcy; grandsons, Charles Lynn Pence of Searcy and Kyle Dean Hamilton (Joan) of Little Rock; great-grandson, Dallas Lynn Pence and his mother Patti Pence of Searcy; sisters, Verna Herkamp of Frisco, Texas and Billie Pennington of Little Rock; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. Included among his friends are the residents and staff of Madison Health and Rehab in Little Rock and the loving caregivers of Hospice. A big thanks to all of them for making his life enjoyable after which you received his beautiful smile and gratitude. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home of Searcy (501) 268-3546. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Thomas Feather officiating. Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery in Griffithville.
