Anabel Cuzine Newby

Anabel "Ann" Largent Newby, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2013. She was born on July 15, 1925 in Ulm, Ark. to Harvey "Cuz" and Lula Payer Largent. Ann graduated from Weiner High School, where she played basketball. She attended Arkansas State College, now Arkansas State University, in Jonesboro. Ann was raised in the Lutheran Faith, and later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brinkley, Ark. where she resided with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Eugene Riley Newby; sister, Mary Crabtrey and brother, Harvey Clay Largent. Ann is survived by her sons, Gary (Robin) Newby of Paragould and Joe Newby of Greers Ferry; daughters, Ange Newby (Jim) Holland of Benton and Jana Newby (Cecil) Bogy of Independence, Ky.; grandchildren, Nathan (Angela) Newby of Paragould, Jay Holland of North Little Rock, Corye (Craig) Donham of Dallas, Texas, Allison Newby of Shirley and Riley Newby of Heber Springs; great-grandchildren, Owen Newby of Paragould, Bristol Bartlett of Heber Springs and, due in September, Jaxson Donham of Dallas, Texas; special care-givers and friends, Shirley Johnson and Tammy Burnley; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ann loved to crochet, cook casseroles, and tweak new recipes to get them just right. Living on Greers Ferry Lake, she never met a large rock that she couldn't find a way to move so that she wouldn't have to mow around it. A good challenge was all she needed to get her problem-solving wheels moving. The more complicated she could make the solution, the better she liked it. Ann loved flowers and her yard had a variety of different blooms year round. She was a dental assistant in Brinkley before moving to Bald Knob, where she and Gene owned the Bald Knob Drive Inn. They retired to their lake house on Greers Ferry Lake, where they enjoyed many good times with their family swimming, boating, and cooking on the grill. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 24 at Heber Springs Funeral Home in Heber Springs. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
