Peggy Lou Welch Morton

Peggy Lou Welch Morton, 87, of DeWitt, passed away June 26, 2013. Peggy was born in Stuttgart on December 11, 1925, to Willa Vera Jones and Ernest Foster Leslie. She married the late John Walter Welch Jr. on August 11, 1951. Several years after his passing, Peggy married the late Charles B. Morton on August 9, 1975. Peggy was the epitome of elegance and wit, and was a source of love, encouragement, and joy to all who knew her. She was wonderful with words, a champion at Shanghai Rummy, and possessed unparalleled skill at creating works of art from the heart through her cross-stitching, quilting, embroidery, and other needlework. Peggy is survived by her four daughters: Jenny Blair, of Conway, Ark.; Leslie Kapec, of Gainesville, Fla.; Wendy Martindale, of Azle, Texas; and Sami Welch, of Van Buren, Ark. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husbands John W. Welch, Jr. and Charles B. Morton; son John Walter Welch, III; brothers Jack and Don Leslie, sister Loaltice Vossmer; and parents, Willa Vera Jones and E.F. Leslie. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, DeWitt, Ark., at noon on June 28, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery in Conway by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.
