Nina Beth (Dokes) Parker 79, of Sherwood, departed this life on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. She was born in North Little Rock, September 4,1933 to Walter and Myrtle Dokes. In life, she was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, and aunt. Her parents, two brothers, Walter Dokes, Jr. and Dr. Limuel Clifford Dokes and two sisters Aletha Ann Dokes and Mary Ellen Rideout, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Wiliard 0. Parker; siblings, Emmuriel (Lillian) Dokes, Carl (Rita) Dokes, of Little Rock, Carol Dokes-Bivens, North Little Rock, Dr. Marion Dokes-Brown (James) of Beebe, Chief Master Sergeant Edward (Ida) Dokes (Ret.) of San Antonio, Texas; brother-in –law, Sergeant Major Val (Mary Ellen ) Rideout (Ret.) of North Little Rock; and sister-in-law, Dr. Frances (Limuel) Dokes of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of nieces and nephews. Nina's legacy will forever be tied to the North Little Rock School District, where she was one of the first African American to integrate the district as a teacher. She served for over forty years imparting her wisdom and knowledge to the youth of the city. She attended Dunbar Junior College, AM&N College (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), and the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville. She was a proud member of King Solomon Baptist Church and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. She was one of the first African American women to graduate with a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She will be loved and remembered by many extended family members and friends. Funeral Services will be at King Solomon Baptist Church, 1304 S. Pine, North Little Rock, Ark., 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013. Interment follows at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland, North Little Rock, Ark. Family hour will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013, 7:30- 8:30 p.m. at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester Street, Little Rock. (501) 372-1305.
