Mildred Johnson Gallegly, 85, former long time resident of Greenwood, S.C., widow of Joe Thomas Gallegly, died March 15, 2013 in Raleigh, N.C. Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas September 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Edward and Esther Wilson Johnson of Mena, Arkansas. Mrs. Gallegly was a 1949 graduate of the University of Arkansas where she received a B.S. degree in Education. She taught public school music for a number of years before teaching second and fourth grades at Woodfields Elementary School. She had been active in the Greenwood Music Club and the Greenwood County Republican Party. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Mrs. Gallegly was formerly very active with children's hand bell and youth choirs of the church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Edward Johnson, Sr.; and sister, Margaret Johnson Wood. Surviving is a daughter, Priscilla Gallegly Hackney and husband Wes of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Ben Thomas Hackney and wife Lauren of Wilmington, N.C., Clay Wilson Hackney of Greenwood, Gabe Johnson Hackney and Mitch Robertson Hackney both of Raleigh, N.C. Memorial Services will be conducted Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Phil Thrailkill and Dr. C.J. Lupo officiating. A private burial was in Oakbrook Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 211 North Main Street, Greenwood, S.C. 29646 or to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
