Sammie Lee Tate, 73, of Little Rock, Arkansas departed this life on March 19, 2013. He was born June 13, 1939, in Portland, Arkansas to the late Robert Tate and Ida Armstrong Tate. An Army Veteran, Sammie was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Erma Tate of 23 years; a son, Gary Greer; a sister, Rosie Lee; a brother, Jessie Carter; and stepmother, Floyd Ree Tate. He's survived by his sons, Deon Tate, Robert Tate, Jamie Greer, Lou Greer and Darryl of Milwaukee, WI; four daughters, Carolyn Winfrey, Samantha Brown, Sanami Avery and Princess of Atlanta, GA; brothers, J.W., Johnny Tate, John Tate, Napolean Carter, Michael Carter, Roosevelt Carter, Jeffery Carter, Donnie Taylor, Robert Tate, Jr. and Randy Tate; sisters, Eurlene Robinson, Carolyn Holmes, Ida Tate, Louise Fisher, Mary Gaston and Emmer Hence; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 28, 2013, 11 a.m., at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 4640 Springer Blvd., Little Rock. Interment will follow with honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 Maryland Ave., NLR, AR. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 6-8 pm, at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester Street Little Rock. (501) 372-1305.
