Joe Owen, 83, of Cabot, passed away May 4, 2013. He was born in England, Arkansas to Isaac and Cecil (Toler) Owen on October 7, 1929. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Julius Owen. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Garza, daughter Tanya Owen (Matt Floyd), special friends Pat and Butch Barker, and a host of nieces and nephews. In high school, Joe held the Arkansas state record in the 880 in Track and Field for many years and was also Cabot High School's first quarterback. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served a tour in Korea. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and returned to Cabot High School as a football coach and a teacher. He loved horse racing, football and visiting his best friends at the beach, "pretty horses and fast women", as he liked to put it! He was a huge Sinatra fan and as his favorite song said, he truly did it his way. No regrets. He lived a simple life with a large dose of happiness. A memorial service will be held May 8, 2013 at 12 p.m. at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave, North Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Arkansas Hospice Foundation, www.arhospice.org. Please share a memoir by visiting the online guest book at www.arkansasfuneralcare.com. Arrangements made by Arkansas Funeral Care.
