Funeral services will be held at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 9, 2013 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Bertrand Drive for Matthew Sevier Gilliam. Reverend Thomas Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Cemetery in Duson, Louisiana. Matthew Sevier Gilliam died Sunday morning May 5 at his home in Lafayette, Louisiana at the age of 55. He was born October 10, 1957 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late William C. Gilliam and the late Rosamond Logan Gilliam. He attended the University of Central Arkansas for a few years after graduating from Malvern High School in 1975. Moving to Lafayette for employment, he fell in love with Louisiana and met and married Nancy Boudreaux in 1985. Matt joined in with Nancy's large family and became a part of them and loved being at all the family gatherings. He returned to college and graduated in 1992 from USL. He has been working as an oilfield dispatcher since 1987 and was currently employed with Furman Enterprises. Matt was an avid golfer and loved all sports especially if played by the Arkansas Razorbacks. He was a kind, sweet and happy person, always playing pranks and always had us laughing. Everyone who knew him loved his funny and cheerful outlook on life and will miss him very much. He is survived by his former wife and companion, Nancy, his step-mother, Ruby L. Gilliam of Malvern, Arkansas and his sisters, Melissa Ward (Darrell), Isabel Gilliam, Carroll Gilliam, Rita Edwards (Keenan) and brother, Alan Scott Brimer. He had an especially close relationship with his nephew and Godson, Ted Gilliam. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Wayne Boudreaux, sisters-in-law, Pam Mendez (Larry), Sharon Boudreaux, Lisa Roberts (Danny), brothers-in-law, Jerry Boudreaux (Dona) and Wayne Boudreaux, II (Dawn). He will also be missed by his cousins and uncle of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Matt is also survived by his beloved Godchildren and many nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, Mary Evalee Gilliam, and brother, William Carroll Gilliam, III, who died as infants. Pallbearers are Ted Gilliam, Hunter Battle, Jerry Boudreaux, Wayne Boudreaux, Larry Mendez, and Danny Roberts. Honorary pallbearer is Rick Furman. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. led by Deacon Randy Hyde.
