Gertha Lee Brown

Gertha Lee Brown, 95, of England, Arkansas (affectionately known as Jimbo) was born in Marlton, Arkansas. Her parents, Dock Parker and Candice Knox Parker had 14 children; Gertha Lee was the thirteenth of the fourteen; they all preceded her in death. In the early 1940's she married Charles (Charlie) Brown; no children were born to this union. In the early 1950's she and Charlie moved to Santa Monica, California. Gertha worked as a domestic worker and Charlie as a car detailer in Hollywood, California. In 1987 they decided to return home and relocated to England, Arkansas. Charlie Brown passed in 1997. Gertha Lee always kept her hands busy. She worked in her field behind their home until the age of 85. You would often find her quilting, embroidering, or shelling peas and pecans. There was always a cake on the cake plate, and her famous black-eyed peas, okra, and cornbread on the stove. Gertha was known best for her love of life, quick wit, and her love for family. She never met a stranger. She ended her busy days with a "high-ball "and the reading of scripture. In the town of England she was often referred to as "that sweet, sweet lady". Jimbo leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be Thursday, May 16th, 2013 at 9 a.m. at the Roller England Funeral Home Chapel (501) 842-3939.
