Elsie Mae (Morris) Compton, 102, passed away peacefully May 13, 2013. She was born February 24, 1911, in Turkey Creek, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Jeff and Gertrude Morris. She was the 4th of 11 siblings. In June 1936, she married William Arthur "Os" Compton, who preceded her in death. Known as "Ms. Elsie", she lived a life of service to others and to God in particular. She lived intentionally and with purpose. Anyone who knew Ms. Elsie would agree that Proverbs 31:10-31 describes her accurately. Ms. Elsie was a teacher and librarian at Rural Special for 43 years. English was her primary subject. She loved teaching and she loved learning. She obtained her college degree while teaching and finished with credits equivalent to a graduate degree. Not only did she teach as a vocation, she taught as a way of life. She believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right. Ms. Elsie held herself to an exacting standard and excelled at most everything she did. Among other things, she was an amazing cook, seamstress, gardener, bookkeeper, and housekeeper. She was willing to teach, and did teach, many of her crafts to others. In addition to being predeceased by her husband, Ms. Elsie was predeceased by her son-in-law, Doug Lancaster and great grandson, Jay Compton. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, JT and Norma Compton; daughter, Niva Lancaster; grandchildren Ken (Karen) Compton, Kevin (Dana) Compton, Kris (Debra) Compton, Belinda Baldus, Reece (Kay) Lancaster, Sonya (Charlie) Daniels, and Vickey (Don) Vance; sisters Ruby Berry and Lois Ackerman; as well as 14 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
